Couples therapy in Beverly Hills

Most couples do not arrive because of one fight. They arrive because the same conversation keeps happening, closeness has drained away, or something happened that neither of you knows how to move past.

We use Emotionally Focused Therapy to help partners see the cycle they are stuck in, understand what each of you is protecting, and find a way back to each other. We work with couples at every stage, and we are affirming of all identities and relationship structures.

Couples come to therapy when

Couples usually wait a long time before calling. There is no threshold you have to reach first.

  • The same argument keeps happening and nothing changes
  • They feel lonely inside their own relationship
  • Trust has been broken by an affair, a secret, or a slow drift
  • A diagnosis, a new baby, or caregiving has taken over everything
  • They are deciding whether to stay or go
  • They want to separate without destroying each other or their kids

How we can help

Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples

EFT is an evidence-based approach that treats the cycle as the problem rather than either partner. We slow the argument down, find the need underneath it, and build the kind of responsiveness that makes conflict recoverable.

Affairs and broken trust

After an affair or a significant secret, the work has two parts: making sense of what happened and rebuilding safety in a realistic way. We hold both partners’ experience without assigning a villain.

Illness, caregiving, and your relationship

A serious diagnosis reorganizes a relationship into patient and caregiver, and the partnership underneath can disappear. We help couples stay a couple through treatment and its aftermath.

New parents and perinatal strain

The first years with a child put pressure on the fault lines you already had, on almost no sleep. We work with the resentment, the division of labor, and the loss of the relationship you had before.

Divorce, separation, and discernment

Some couples come in unsure whether they want to stay. We can slow that decision down and make it a considered one, and support a separation that protects both of you and your children.

LGBTQIA+ couples and all relationship structures

Affirming work with same-sex couples, LGBTQIA+ partners, and people in open or non-traditional relationships, without treating the structure itself as the thing to examine.

How couples therapy works here

Most couples are not actually fighting about the dishes, the phone, or the in-laws. Underneath is a much older question: can I reach you, and will you be there when I do. Emotionally Focused Therapy works on that question directly.

In early sessions we map the cycle: what each of you does when the distance grows, and what that move protects. Once you can both see it, the fight stops being about who is right. Later sessions are about having the conversations that could not happen before, with us in the room to slow things down.

You do not need your partner’s participation to start. Individual work changes how you respond in the relationship, which often changes the relationship itself, and it helps when you are the one deciding whether to stay.

Common questions

What is Emotionally Focused Therapy?

EFT is an evidence-based couples therapy focused on the emotional cycle behind conflict. Rather than teaching communication scripts, it helps partners understand what each person is protecting and rebuild a secure bond. It has strong research support across a range of couples.

What if my partner will not come?

Start on your own. Individual work changes how you respond in the relationship, which often shifts the dynamic, and it gives you a clearer view of what you want. Many partners join later once therapy stops feeling like an accusation.

Is it too late for couples therapy?

Not necessarily. Some couples reconnect. Others use therapy to separate with less damage, especially when children are involved. Both are legitimate outcomes, and we will be honest with you about what we are seeing.

How long does couples therapy take?

Most couples meet weekly at first. Some see real change within a few months, and couples working through an affair or long-standing distance usually need longer. We will give you an honest estimate after a few sessions and revisit it together.

Do you work with LGBTQIA+ couples and open relationships?

Yes. We work with all identities and relationship structures, and we do not treat the structure itself as the problem to be examined.

Do you take insurance for couples therapy?

We are in-network with Cigna and UnitedHealthcare, though coverage for couples sessions varies by plan. We will help you check your benefits before your first session, and we provide superbills for out-of-network plans.
