Melodi Gencosmanoglu, AMFT, APCC
Clinical Associate / Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist, AMFT165390, Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, APCC23760
About MelodiWe can’t always choose how life unfolds, but understanding why we do what we do can open up more choices in how we respond. I support clients in exploring the experiences and patterns that shape them, creating room for greater flexibility in how they see themselves, relate to others, and navigate life’s challenges.
I work with individuals, couples, and families, with a particular interest in the intersection of anxiety, identity, and relationships, including how personal histories and cultural experiences shape the expectations we carry.
I offer therapy in English and Turkish, in person in Beverly Hills and online throughout California.
-
My training in evidence-based approaches, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), informs my work with anxiety and mood concerns, while my therapeutic approach remains grounded in psychodynamic exploration. I support clients experiencing anxiety, intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, panic, depression, and emotional distress, exploring the patterns that may maintain these experiences and expanding flexibility in how they respond.
-
I support clients navigating painful experiences, grief, and significant losses, with sensitivity to how these experiences can shape our sense of safety, identity, and relationships.
-
Informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and relational approaches, I support couples and families in understanding recurring patterns of interaction, underlying emotional needs, and the experiences that shape their relationships. Together, we explore communication, conflict, intimacy, and connection, creating room for new ways of relating to one another.
-
Having worked across research, healthcare, and mental health settings, I understand the pressures that can accompany demanding professional environments. I have experience supporting healthcare professionals, creatives, and others in high-stress careers as they navigate perfectionism, self-criticism, professional identity, boundaries, and burnout.
-
I support clients navigating major life transitions, cultural and family expectations, and the sometimes competing demands of personal values, relationships, and professional aspirations. Our work can also explore questions of identity, belonging, and adjustment.
Melodi’s Expertise
My therapeutic approach
I see therapy as a genuine conversation grounded in curiosity, and a space to take a breath, let your guard down, and explore your experiences without feeling the need to have everything figured out. I bring both compassion and thoughtful challenge to our work, making room for honest reflection, new perspectives, and hope for what’s possible.
My practice is grounded in psychodynamic therapy, exploring how your experiences and relationships shape the way you see yourself and navigate the world. My background in neuroscience and cognitive science, along with my clinical training in relational Gestalt therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), informs the curiosity I bring to our exploration together. Our work will explore why familiar patterns develop, what keeps them in place, and what possibilities emerge when we begin to experience them differently.
